EIB might Recall Loan after Emission Scandal Affected Volkswagen’s Operations Wo

Volkswagen AG said it will recall 1,950 diesel vehicles in China to correct engine software that the automaker has admitted cheated on emissions tests. On the other hand, the European Investment Bank (EIB) said it might recall a loan as the carmaker the scandal still continues to affect the company’s operation across the world.

Volkswagen on Monday said in a statement that the recall will be applied to 1,946 Tiguan sport utility vehicles and four Passat B6 sedans equipped with the four-cylinder Type EA 189 diesel engine.

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) announced that two luxurious cars have been added to the police car fleet. Tesla Motors Inc Model S and BMW i3 are the two cars added to LAPD car fleet.

It has been said that the two luxurious cars have been loaned to the police department, and were unveiled as part of the city’s new plan. Los Angeles hopes that it will have nearly 300 new electric and hybrid vehicles in the fleet soon.

Mayor Eric Garcetti, while speaking about the plan, said that the Los Angeles police, fire, and four other departments will lease 160 electric vehicles.

The United Auto Workers (UAW) has chosen Fiat Chrysler Automobiles as it target to set the pattern for a contract deal before turning to General Motors and Ford Motor Co.

The decision of choosing Fiat Chrysler’s FCA US unit as the target company for shaping the new contract was disclosed by the union on Sunday. The decision has kick-started the intense negotiation period which is expected to focus on a two-tier wage system that has financially benefitted auto makers but ranked workers.

The Tesla Model S P85D electric car has gone beyond the levels being set by Consumer Reports Ratings system. The car has performed great in Consumer Reports Ratings system than any other ever has. The modified version of the Tesla S sedan has received the best-ever vehicle ratings.

Mark Rechtin, automotive editor for the consumer group, was of the view, "With a six-figure price-tag, the P85D is expensive, meaning its virtues will be experienced by a rare few. But its significance as a breakthrough model that is pushing the boundaries of both performance and fuel-efficiency is dramatic".

According to an Austin-based cyclist, he encountered something strange. He noticed that when an autonomous car spotted him doing a track stand at an intersection, it became comically unsure of what to do. He noticed that every time his bike moved even a little, the car would lurch forward and hit the brakes quickly. He said nothing much happened but then it became clear that Google's self-driving code didn’t know how to deal with a not-quite-stationary bike.

Volkswagen, Mazda issue recall of nearly 613,000 vehicles

Recent documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) have revealed that nearly 613,000 vehicles are being recalled by automakers Volkswagen and Mazda.

According to the documents, about 420,000 vehicles are being recalled by Volkswagen in the US because of improper deployment of air-bags in case of a crash. The remaining vehicles are being recalled by Mazda due to potential loss of steering power resulting from rust on a front suspension component.
