Enormous Planet found orbiting CI Tau Star

Astronomers have found an enormous planet that is in orbit of a star 2 million years old. The planet is a minimum of eightfold larger than Jupiter. The star is known as CI Tau and is located at a distance of approximately 450 light years from Earth.

Kepler-62f could be habitable, say astronomers

A team of astronomers has unveiled that a distant planet known as Kepler-62f could be habitable. The planet, which is around 1,200 light-years from earth and present in the direction of the constellation Lyra, is around 40% larger than earth.

As per the size, the planet falls in the range of planets that are possible rocky and possibly could have oceans. In 2013, NASA’s Kepler mission discovered the planetary system in 2013. Aomawa Shields from the University of California, Los Angeles along with team members has gathered information about the planet.

Two newly spotted Black hole seeds may unveil formation of supermassive black holes

Data from three of NASA’s space telescopes has helped spotting black hole ‘seeds’ of around 100,000 times the mass of the sun. These colossal objects could be what started the process of black holes to grow super-massive.

Both of the black hole seeds were seen more than 12 billion years ago, less than a billion years after the Big Bang. If the discovery gets confirmed then as per scientists, it would explain how these monster black holes were born.

New Horizons Mission could explore MU69 as future target

After registering success in exploring Pluto, New Horizons team is expecting to win an extended mission to explore MU69. This icy rock is one of many types of objects in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of rock and ice debris that encircles our solar system.

MU69 is categorized as a cold classical object, meaning that it has remained undisturbed since the beginning of the solar system. Simon Porter from the New Horizons mission said that the Kuiper Belt are most primordial objects.

Orbital ATK discloses its plans about Lunar Outpost for NASA research by 2020

NASA could have another space station in addition to International Space Station if Orbital ATK succeeds in its future attempt to construct a manned lunar orbit outpost. The outpost would work in association with NASA’s Orion Crew Vehicle. The American aerospace giant disclosed plans to manufacture and setup the outpost by 2020.

Will New Horizons explore 2014 MU69 or End the Mission This Year?

Last year, NASA’s New Horizons spacecraft grabbed headlines because of its Pluto flyby in July. The probe provided new understandings on the dwarf planet and allowed earth-bound astronomers see Plutonian features in details. Now, New Horizons team wants to use the spacecraft to investigate a Kuiper belt object: 2014 MU69.

Many low-lying regions in New Orleans are Sinking

Sinking is still a problem for New Orleans, a Louisiana city on the Mississippi River, and its surrounding regions, suggested a new study by NASA. Some of the places are sinking over one-and-a-half inches every year.

For the study, the US space agency has created maps to know how fast the southeastern Louisiana city and its suburbs are going under water. Researchers used NASA airborne radar data collected in four years (2009 to 2012) to know how serious the situation is for the region and the residents.
