Uber as a part of Zero Fatalities campaign offering discounted rides this weekend

For the Nevada Department of Public Safety’s Zero Fatalities campaign, Uber has also joined hands with the department. The campaign aims to promote awareness about safe, alternative transportation options during the July 4 weekend.

The campaign is on from 30 June to 5 July, 2016. As a part of the campaign, Uber will offer discounted ride codes up to $15 and $5 from each ride will be donated to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). The participating low enforcement agencies will distribute discount ride cars when they will make routine traffic stops.

In an announcement, ride-hailing company Uber said that now its users can reserve a ride around a month in advance. Uber wrote on its blog that the service has begun on Thursday in Seattle and the company will expand the service in other cities in near future.

This feature hasn’t been offered for the first time ever by a ride-hailing service. USA Today reported that in May, Lyft announced that it has begun testing a similar program in San Francisco, while Gett came up with a scheduled-ahead service for over a year in the markets it operates.

Uber’s drivers will be given a status of independent contractors. However, the drivers argued saying that they should be given the status of employees and at the same time should also be entitled to claim expanses and other rights.
