Lauren Burk’s parents still fighting Auburn University for on-campus police forc

The grief-stricken parents of Lauren Burk, a former Auburn University student who was murdered eight years ago, are still fighting the University for an on-campus police force.

James Burk and Viviane Guerchon told reporters that that wanted Auburn University to institute a police force on campus so what happened to their daughter years ago could never happen to anyone again.

Lauren Burk who was 18 years old at the time of her birth was kidnapped, shot and left to die in the year of 2008. There were cameras in the parking lot the night Lauren was abducted, but no one noticed the killer.

Auburn athletics director Jay Jacobs’ contract could stretch through 2021

Auburn Athletics Director Jay Jacobs’ multi-year contract will stretch through at least 2020 and could be extended one more year into 2021, according to wording of the contract documents.

Jacobs’ contract documents show that he signed a five-year contract with Auburn in 2011. He gets one-year renewal option at the end of each of the five academic years. The contract is thus scheduled to expire on June 30, 2020.

But, Jacobs’ contract could be renewed and he could get an additional year, which would stretch his contract through 2021 with a routine rollover on June 1.

Lewiston and Auburn officials have confirmed that they have hired engineers to study what the twin cities can do to keep contaminants like lead out of the drinking water.

Levels of lead found in drinking water last year were much higher than the prescribed limits. Officials also discovered that lead found in the water does not come from the lake; rather it comes from the pipes inside the house.

Auburn Athletics signs multimedia rights agreement with FOX Sports

Auburn Athletics confirmed on Monday that it signed an exclusive partnership deal with FOX Sports for management of its multimedia rights and sponsorship sales.

FOX Sports College Properties, an arm of FOX’s Home Team Sports, will be responsible for managing rights including athletics-related radio rights, corporate hospitality rights, in-venue signage rights, social media integration rights, promotional activities rights, and intellectual property rights.

The Auburn women’s golf team concluded play at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate as the tournament came to its end at the Long Cove Club on Sunday.

The team enjoyed its best individual round of the day with sophomore Kelli Murphy who scored 77 (+6), tying for 45th spot overall at thirteen-over for the week.

Sophomore Michaela Owen emerged as the top overall finisher for the week for the Tigers. She tied for 26th spot at nine-over. Both Owen and senior Jamie Yun shot 79 (+8) during yesterday’s match.

A 44-year-old Auburn woman was hit and killed by a SUV earlier this week as the driver mistakenly fleeing a patrol car lost control of his vehicle, police officials said.

According to Auburn police, a felon wanted on a state Department of Corrections warrant thought he was being chased by police last Wednesday night when he lost control of his vehicle and ran up onto a sidewalk outside the Muckleshoot Casino.
