Portland residents worried over increasing air pollution

In wake of the discovery of serious air pollution in Southeast Portland, worried residents told a House committee that they have lost trust in the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality’s capacity to keep the public safe.

State environment officials found seriously high levels of the hazardous metals like arsenic and cadmium in the air near Bullseye Glass in the southeastern part of Portland. Some lawmakers called the situation a public health emergency.

Many more toxic pollution hot spots and more potential sources of toxic air have emerged in Oregon since state officials announced that they had found high levels of the hazardous metals in the air near Bullseye Glass in Southeast Portland, prompting some senators to call the situation a public health emergency.

Near Bullseye Glass, officials found highly toxic elements arsenic and Cadmium a whopping 159 and 49 times higher than the prescribed limited.

A 46-year-old man came forward to police and confessed that he set two properties at fire in Portland in the early hours of Sunday morning, authorities announced.

Jaime Calderon admitted that he started fire at the Eastside Free Methodist Church in Southeast Portland as well as another blaze in a vacant house across the street in the same area.

In an email two weeks back, NASA Commander Scott Kelly sent good news that the ping pong paddles have finally reached aboard the International Space Station. After returning on Earth, a 22-year-old Gresham man had to wait for fifteen days to watch the viral video proof of his summer experiments.

A Portland State University engineering student, Karl Cardin, who designed four paddles composed of a hydrophobic polycarbonate material, said that they knew it would work.

Icelandair will start seasonal non-stop service next year

From 2015, Icelandair will start seasonal non-stop service from Portland, Oregon to Reykjavik, Iceland. The new service is scheduled to start from May 20, 2015 and continue through October 21, 2015.

The seasonal service will be launched at Keflavik International Airport near the Icelandic capital of Reykjavik. The Icelandair will fly two times in a week through October 21 between the cities.

OSHA investigating complaint filed against Portland for Park Rangers

The Oregon Occupational Safety & Health Division (OSHA) is investigating a complaint against the Portland City in an issue related to city Park Rangers.

OSHA officials said their office probed complaints related to workplace safety and health issues, but stressed that they could not provide details about the complaint.

Earlier this year, the Portland Park Rangers joined a union, Laborers Local 483, and are now pursuing contract negotiations.
