Uber as a part of Zero Fatalities campaign offering discounted rides this weekend

For the Nevada Department of Public Safety’s Zero Fatalities campaign, Uber has also joined hands with the department. The campaign aims to promote awareness about safe, alternative transportation options during the July 4 weekend.

The campaign is on from 30 June to 5 July, 2016. As a part of the campaign, Uber will offer discounted ride codes up to $15 and $5 from each ride will be donated to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). The participating low enforcement agencies will distribute discount ride cars when they will make routine traffic stops.

Mosquitoes test positive for St. Louis encephalitis in Clark County

Nevada’s Clark County has mosquitoes that could spread St. Louis encephalitis. In an announcement, the Southern Nevada Health District said that mosquitoes have been tested for the virus that can cause serious health issues.

The district released a press release where it revealed that mosquitoes have been tested positive in pools in the 89104, 89120, 89146 and 89191 ZIP codes. It also said that no human case has been reported for the disease. St. Louis encephalitis is a rare disease and the county doesn’t have any case of it since 2007.

According to an Associated Press report, ride-sharing app Uber has been blocked from offering any rides in the state of Nevada - at least until November 7.

Uber had quietly launched it service in Las Vegas, Reno and Carson City on Friday, October 24. The launch of the ride-sharing service in Nevada enabled Uber drivers to pick up passengers at any destination, except for the Las Vegas Strip between the Mandalay Bay and SLS casinos, and from McCarran International Airport.

The Republican Party is talking about reviving the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste site after their party takes control of Senate in November. But Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid from Nevada mentioned that as long as he is around, there will be no nuclear waste dump in Yucca Mountain, located 90 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada.

To guard against such action, Reid pushed fast votes on two administration nominees to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, ensuring the majority of those sitting on the board have been appointed by Democrats.

Nevada lawmakers approve $1.25-billion Tesla deal with a 21-0 vote

In a late Thursday move, the Nevada Legislature gave its approval to the $1.25 billion Tesla deal, under which electric vehicle maker Tesla Motors' $5-billion lithium battery gigafactory will come up at the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center in Northern Nevada.

The $1.2 billion Tesla deal was brokered by Nevada's Gov. Brian Sandoval. Tesla's battery plant in Northern Nevada is projected to add 6,500 gigafactory jobs and nearly 22,000 ancillary jobs.

Tesla Motors and Nevada officially announced Thursday that the "Gigafactory", the biggest lithium battery factory in the world, will be set up in Nevada.

Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval unveiled that the factory is most likely to create almost 22,000 new jobs and can even add $100 billion to the state's economy in the coming 20 years. The deal is very essential for the state and has the potential to change Nevada forever, said Brian.
