Portland police arrest man on suspension of fatally hitting cyclist

A 55-year-old man has been arrested in Portland for allegedly hitting and killing a teenager cyclist last Saturday afternoon in the southeast part of the city, police officials confirmed.

According to a statement released by the Portland Police department, Franklin Drobny was taken into custody on suspicion of fatally hitting a 17-year-old cyclist. The accident took place at around 3:51 p.m. at Southeast Center Street and 142nd Avenue.

Portland police detectives are frantically searching for a suspect in connection with a double shooting that left one man dead and another wounded in an apartment late Tuesday night.

According to a statement released by police on Wednesday, 36-year-old David Anderson, 36, of Portland, was killed, and another unnamed man was wounded in the shooting at 88 Gilman Street.

Murder defendant Justin Pillsbury’s blood was found throughout the Augusta apartment where he allegedly killed his girlfriend, a DNA analyst told a panel of judges on Monday.

The DNA analyst told the jury Pillsbury’s blood was found smeared on the apartment’s front door, the cabinets and sink and microwave in the kitchen as well as part of the living room wall. Police also found the suspect’s blood on all but one of the four knives that detectives seized from the apartment.

The grief-stricken parents of Lauren Burk, a former Auburn University student who was murdered eight years ago, are still fighting the University for an on-campus police force.

James Burk and Viviane Guerchon told reporters that that wanted Auburn University to institute a police force on campus so what happened to their daughter years ago could never happen to anyone again.

Lauren Burk who was 18 years old at the time of her birth was kidnapped, shot and left to die in the year of 2008. There were cameras in the parking lot the night Lauren was abducted, but no one noticed the killer.

A Portland man, who has worked as a massage therapist in the city for several years, has been arrested for allegedly sexually abusing a client, police confirmed.

A woman has lodged a complaint with the city police department that the massage therapist, identified as 32-year-old Benjamin Thomas Collura, sexually abused her while giving a massage at River’s Edge Hotel & Spa in SW Portland last month.

Brunswick man charged with felony aggravated cruelty to animals

A 29-year-old Brunswick man has been charged with felony aggravated cruelty to animals for allegedly throwing his dog against a wall and abusing the pet on at least two occasions, police officials announced.

Brunswick police Cmdr. Marc Hagan said the suspect, Robert LaChance, was issued criminal summons last Friday after he assaulted Buddy, his male black Labrador retriever mix dog.

Hagan explained that the assault left the dog with multiple wounds, including a broken leg. When police took custody of the pet, he was in a bad condition, with a lot of pain and suffering from broken leg.

Trial for Augusta man accused of killing girlfriend set to begin

An Augusta man’s trial on a charge of murdering his girlfriend is set to begin, around 28 months after the victim was found in a pool of blood in their apartment.

A jury comprised of eleven men and five women was selected on Thursday to hear the case against 41-year-old Justin Pillsbury, who has pleaded not guilty to the charge of murder. The indictment accuses him of intentional or depraved indifference murder -- the alternative forms of the same crime.
