Bangor preparing to host Second Comic & Toy Convention

Fans of comic books, science fiction and video games will get a great opportunity to explore comics and games of their choice at the second annual Bangor Comic & Toy Convention, which is scheduled to take place this weekend.

Last year, roughly 4,000 people visited the convention and hundreds of them were seen dressed up as their favorite comic or game figures.

Organizers of this year’s Bangor Comic & Toy Con are very excited for this weekend’s gathering. They expect the upcoming event to attract up to five thousand fans.

Country music star Dolly Parton, who recently turned 70, will perform in Bangor for the first time in more than 25 years.

Confirming her first major U.S. and Canadian tour, the country music legend and pop cultural icon said she would perform in nearly five dozen cities, including Bangor.

Dolly’s Bangor performance is schedule to take place at Darling’s Waterfront Pavilion on Saturday, June 18, 2016.

In her yet-to-be-released book “Joe Gould’s Teeth,” historian Jill Lepore reveals archival evidence that writer Joe Gould was once considered to be a harmless eccentric, harassed Savage, who was called Miss Savage.

He used to insult her, follow her to parties and tell other people that she had promised to marry him, and she complained to friends. He accused them of telling lies.

Ms. Lepore writes in the book that he berated her for betraying his secrets. One mutual friend of the two claimed that Miss Savage, a black woman, hesitated in taking the matter to a court of justice.

Augusta organizing numerous festivities in honor of St. Patrick’s Day

A number of events and festivities have been planned around the CSRA and parking in downtown Augusta in honor of St. Patrick’s Day.

The celebration at Augusta Commons started at 4 p.m. on March 17, while Columbia County will kick off its YuchiKiokee Festival today at the Evans Towne Center Park. In Aiken, Stables restaurant at Rose Hill is also celebrating St. Patrick’s Day, starting at 5 p.m. and ending at 10 p.m. featuring an Irish food, music and beer.

The much-awaited Professional Bull Riders' BlueDEF Tour is all set to come to Bangor, thanks to efforts made by the Cross Insurance Center's Joe Imbriaco and others to attract the 'high-energy' bull riding tour to the city.

The Professional Bull Riders' BlueDEF Tour is coming to Bangor at 8 p. m. on Friday and 7 p. m. on Saturday. The Cross Insurance Center's general manager Imbriaco said he worked on attracting the tour to the city for a couple of years.

The Academy of Country Music (ACM) on Tuesday nominated Darling’s Waterfront Pavilion in Bangor for Venue of the Year Award. The organization announced the nomination via its Twitter account.

The ACM awards are meant to encourage best performers and other individuals or businesses that contribute to the country music industry. Apart from Venue of the Year Award, the ACM has categories for nightclubs, casinos, promoters, talent buyers and festivals.
