Wings Encased in Amber shed Light on ‘What’s Common between Ancient, Modern Birds’

Wings Encased in Amber shed Light on ‘What’s Common between Ancient, Modern Birds’

There were birds who survived when dinosaurs were ruling the planet. Now, researchers have found some remains of those birds encased in amber. A research team found preserved wings of those birds that lived during the mid-cretaceous period. Wings are of two birds, as per the researchers.

A study on the wings published in the journal Nature Communications stated that the wings are of enantiornithines, a bird group that went extinct about 66 million years ago. These were tiny birds and could be juveniles, it added.

Adélie Penguins may leave Antarctica by end of Century, Study blames Climate Change

Not good news for penguin lovers: a study has suggested that Antarctica is going to lose many of its Adélie penguins in future, thanks to climate change. By the end of this century, 60% of the penguin population won’t be able to live in the region, it added.

It will be a big loss for earth's southernmost continent, which is virtually uninhabited region covered with ice. Adélie penguins have been living in Antarctica for the last about 45,000 years.

Public Workshop hosted to Guide Florida Citizens on Bear Encounter

Numbers of people who have an encounter with a bear in the past have been increasing. Now, more people are with a story on bear to discuss. They describe what happened when they came across a wandering bear in their street, backyard or near trash cans. Is the US becoming a bear country?

Florida is among the places whose residents have most numbers of encounters with bears. As the population of black bears is growing in the state, more reports of people bumping into bears are received by wildlife officials.

Here’s what Newly Found Mummified Amber-encased Wings may reveal about Ancient Birds

Here’s what Newly Found Mummified Amber-encased Wings may reveal about Ancient Birds

Plumage in modern birds existed in their predecessors who inhabited the planet millions of years ago, suggested an analysis of two amber-encased bird wings. The mummified wings are about 99-million-year old and could reveal many things about ancient birds.

A study conducted on the fossilized wings suggested that they were of enantiornithes, a group of extinct avialans. It is believed that the group died out at the end of the Cretaceous period. The study published Tuesday in Nature Communications was funded by the National Geographic Society's Expeditions Council.
