SIU warns people to keep distance from Campus Lake water due to algae

Southern Illinois University Carbondale is warning people about possibility of blue-green algae to be present in Campus Lake. The university has advised people to avoid any contact with algae by staying away from water of Campus Lake. The blue-green algae are also known as cyanobacteria.

Officials at university have been for long trying to solve the problem of blue-green algae, which occurs naturally in water. The university stated that it will soon carry out efforts to improve condition of the lake. If algae grow rapidly, it results into a state called bloom.

Return of ‘Scratchy’ marks beginning of Shark Season in Cape Cod

Scratchy, a 13-foot great white shark, has made a comeback in the waters of Cape Cod. The male shark was seen recently in the area water, and its appearance has suggested that shark season has begun. The animal has been named Scratchy because of marks on its body that it got after fighting seals.

Scratchy is the first great white shark spotted this season, as per a report of the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy. Researchers came to know about the creature when they noticed tag on its body. It was tagged in 2014, and the animal still has the tag on it.

Three New Fish Species Including Male Hawaiian Pigfish Discovered

Add three new fish to list of species on earth. A team of Hawaiian researchers claimed that it has found the fish species during a 25-day expedition to the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument.

The researchers said that new fish species include a never-seen-before male Hawaiian Pigfish. The fish was discovered in water of the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) announced in a recent statement that two of the species have been collected by divers, while one fish has been filmed by them.

The bacteria were detected during an unscheduled evaluation caused by a cancer patient who was tested positive for the bacteria.
