Second case of Colistin-Resistant Detected in US

After the first case of colistin-resistant bacteria in the US reported in May, another case has emerged. This time in patient who underwent surgery in a New York hospital in 2015, according to a recently published study. Colistin is an antibiotic of last resort.

The country has been trying to detect this strain for a long time before it found one in May, a highly serious strain that could not be treated even by Colistin, which is an antibiotic of last resort. The recent findings were published online in Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy.

Stunning Storm recorded from 37,000 feet above Pacific Ocean

Last month, pilot Santiago Borja clicked a striking picture of lightning flashes revealing a huge storm high over the Pacific Ocean. Borja captured an isolated cloud amid a threatening thunderstorm being at an altitude of 37,000 feet while travelling from New York to Guayaquil, Ecuador.

While speaking to NBC News, Borja said that it isn’t very common to get the luck of flying by this big distant storm. He said that generally they are surrounded by clouds making it impossible to be noticed, and the radar has to be used.

Distant supernova explosion probably contributed to minor mass extinction on Earth 2.59 million years ago

A latest study suggested that a distant supernova explosion could have been a contributor in a minor mass extinction on our planet 2.59 million years back. Researchers said that fast-moving, charged particles known as cosmic rays blasted out by a supernova probably played a part in the climatic changes that seems to have caused a die-off by the Pliocene epoch end and the beginning of the Pleistocene.

Seemingly nondescript galaxy is actually behemoth cobbled together out of various cosmic spare parts: Study

A latest study suggested that an apparently nondescript galaxy was in really a behemoth cobbled together out of different cosmic spare parts. Lying around 250 million light-years from Earth, UGC 1382 had long been called an old, tiny and ordinary elliptical galaxy.

But latest observations have demonstrated that it's actually a spiral, which is 718,000 light-years broad and seven times bigger in comparison to the Milky Way of our own planet.
