Distant supernova explosion probably contributed to minor mass extinction on Earth 2.59 million years ago

A latest study suggested that a distant supernova explosion could have been a contributor in a minor mass extinction on our planet 2.59 million years back. Researchers said that fast-moving, charged particles known as cosmic rays blasted out by a supernova probably played a part in the climatic changes that seems to have caused a die-off by the Pliocene epoch end and the beginning of the Pleistocene.

A latest study suggested that an apparently nondescript galaxy was in really a behemoth cobbled together out of different cosmic spare parts. Lying around 250 million light-years from Earth, UGC 1382 had long been called an old, tiny and ordinary elliptical galaxy.

But latest observations have demonstrated that it's actually a spiral, which is 718,000 light-years broad and seven times bigger in comparison to the Milky Way of our own planet.

A NASA camera on the Deep Space Climate Observatory (DSCOVR) satellite for the second in a year has captured an image that shows the moon as it moves in front of the sunlit side of earth. The event was recorded on July 5 with the same level of resolution as the first photo bomb of last year.

Adam Szabo, DSCOVR project scientist at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, said that it has happened again with DSCOVR that the moon came in between the spacecraft and earth. Using NASA’s Earth Polychromatic Imaging Camera (EPIC), the new photo bomb image was captured.

Astronomers have discovered water clouds outside the solar system, for the first time. The clouds of water have been found on a brown dwarf called WISE 0855, located 7.2 light years from earth.

The brown dwarf is the considered to be the coldest known object outside of the solar system and is quite similar to Jupiter. Researchers said that the object has very low temperature and that makes it the first object after earth, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn to have water clouds.
