Tight end Tre’ McKitty to visit Auburn again this Tuesday

Tre’ McKitty, a three-star tight end at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., has announced that he will pay a visit to Auburn for the second time this Tuesday.

The 6-foot-4, 240-pound tight end has been invited to Nike’s The Opening Finals following his impressive performance at the Atlanta Opening Regional last Sunday. the top tight end also confirmed that he will bring his father along.

Speaking about his upcoming visit, McKitty said, “It’s a great campus. New facilities in a great area, too, so I like that. I think highly of Auburn. I just want my dad to see it, too.”

Husson University’s two baseball players jumpstarted their seasons offensively on Sunday and led the Eagles to a 9-7 non-conference triumph over Bates College of Lewiston at the Winkin Sports Complex.

Entering the game with 0-for-15, junior center fielder Christian Corneil scored a couple of hits, which included a lead-off double that led to a 3-run rally in the sixth inning.

Julien Boone, a senior designated hitter, had a clutch two-out, two-run single in the sixth inning. He hit .136 (3-for-22) while delivering his pivotal base hit.

‘Helmet Guy’ energizes Auburn softball games

Auburn Tigers have tens of thousands of passionate fans who pack the arena to its full capacity whenever the team is in action. Mike Cooper is also a passionate fan of the team but he is notably different.

Cooper and his wife have been attending Auburn baseball matches since the mid-1990s, and years ago he received a baseball helmet from the team as a promotional gift. He has been wearing the same helmet since then, earning the nickname ‘Helmet Guy.’

After suffering some really disappointing losses, Portland Pilots dismissed men’s basketball coach Eric Reveno, University of Portland confirmed on Tuesday.

Reveno had been with the team for the past ten years, where his record was 140-178. The Portland Pilots finished the season 12-20, after suffering losses to last-place San Diego and to Gonzaga in the West Coast Conference tournament.

Arkansas native Reese Cates suffered a number of serious injuries in bull riding contests over the years, but those injuries failed to dampen his spirit.

The 27-year-old Arkansas native climbed back on a 2,000-pound bovine last Saturday night and won the Pro Bull Riding BlueDEF Tour’s first ever contest at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, pocketing $6,700.

Cates, who finished with an aggregate score of 259 in the contest, said he rode his first bull at the age of 13 years, adding that bull riding was in his blood.

Auburn Tigers made ten runs on fourteen hits and freshman Casey Mize limited Oral Roberts to merely a single run in seven innings as Auburn defeated Oral Roberts 10-1 on Saturday at Plainsman Park. On Sunday, Tigers capped the weekend filled with offense with a season-high 21 hits in an 18-11 victory over the rival team.

Anfernee Grier, an outfielder for the Tigers, and shortstop Cody Nulph accounted for four RBI, while catcher Blake Logan added 3 RBI for the team, which scored 7 runs in the sixth inning to regain the lead.

Auburn athletics director Jay Jacobs’ contract could stretch through 2021

Auburn Athletics Director Jay Jacobs’ multi-year contract will stretch through at least 2020 and could be extended one more year into 2021, according to wording of the contract documents.

Jacobs’ contract documents show that he signed a five-year contract with Auburn in 2011. He gets one-year renewal option at the end of each of the five academic years. The contract is thus scheduled to expire on June 30, 2020.

But, Jacobs’ contract could be renewed and he could get an additional year, which would stretch his contract through 2021 with a routine rollover on June 1.
